Located at 357 Scotland Street, Unit A in Dunedin, The Bike Lab has quickly become a go to spot for local cyclists. While the shop officially opened its doors in early 2023, the groundwork started back in 2020. What began as a shared passion for cycling has grown into a family run business rooted in community, connection, and care.

A true family business

The Bike Lab is owned and operated by Jesse and Szandi, with the help of their four year old who proudly serves as the shop’s unofficial boss. Jesse is a trained master mechanic and handles every build and tune up with a high level of precision. Szandi manages operations, inventory, ordering, events, and customer care. Together, they balance technical expertise with a welcoming atmosphere that makes riders feel right at home.

Inspired by a love of cycling and community

Cycling has always been a big part of Jesse’s life, and that passion naturally spread to Szandi as they discovered how powerful bikes can be in bringing people together. From the start, their vision went beyond opening a traditional bike shop. They wanted to create a gathering place for riders, build something meaningful for their family, and give back to the community that supported them.

What The Bike Lab offers

The Bike Lab carries a carefully selected lineup of high end bikes, frames, wheels, and components. Services include same day and next day tune ups, custom builds, pick up and delivery, professional bike fittings, premium rentals, and weekly guided club rides. Every service is handled with care, and every rider is treated like part of the family.

What truly sets The Bike Lab apart is its community first mindset. It is not just a place to buy or service a bike. It is a clubhouse where cyclists connect, learn from each other, and support one another on and off the road.

Why Dunedin

Dunedin was a natural choice for The Bike Lab. With its friendly downtown, waterfront trails, and year round riding weather, it offers the ideal environment for cyclists of all kinds. The town also values local businesses and community involvement, which aligned perfectly with the founders’ goals. From day one, Dunedin welcomed them, and they have been proud to build their legacy here.

Giving back and looking ahead

The Bike Lab hopes to unite all types of riders, from road and gravel to triathletes and casual cyclists. By offering reliable service, inclusive events, and a trusted place to connect, they aim to be a steady hub the cycling community can count on. Their goal is simple and meaningful: support healthier lifestyles, strengthen local partnerships, and create shared experiences that bring people together.

A favorite local spot

When they are not at the shop, you can often find the family enjoying time at Hammock Park. It is a place where their family spends time, group rides pass through, and the natural beauty of Dunedin shines. For them, it represents connection, adventure, and home.
